Eight children were among 66 people killed in Israeli strikes on Thursday while they were waiting for food outside a health clinic.

As Israel and Hamas move closer to a ceasefire agreement, Israel says it wants to maintain troops in a southern corridor of the Gaza Strip — a condition that could derail the talks.

But Hamas said in its announcement of the partial hostage release that disagreements over the free flow of aid into Gaza and Israel’s military withdrawal were sticking points in the discussions. It also wants “real guarantees” for a lasting peace.
