The sale of the San Diego Padres franchise is reportedly entering its final stages with some intriguing bidders in the mix.
Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees and NBA team owner Joe Lacob among five parties looking to buy the Padres franchise.
The Seidler family, which currently owns the Padres, has been exploring a potential sale since November. John Seidler, brother of late team owner Peter Seidler, currently controls the family trust, and thus the Padres, after being approved by MLB owners a year ago.
Initial bids are in for the Padres, and a Hall of Fame quarterback has joined the race for the San Diego franchise. According to The Athletic former Charger Drew Brees has partnered with Vuori CEO Joe Kudla in an attempt to purchase the Padres from John Seidler and the Seidler family.
Drew Brees and Larry Fitzgerald headlined the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class featuring five players but not six-time Super Bowl winning head coach Bill Belichick.
Brees signed a six-year, $60 million contract with the Saints. Over the next 15 seasons, Brees received 12 Pro Bowl invitations and led New Orleans to the NFL championship for the 2009 season. Miami hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2000 season.
