In 2022, Chapman was again removed from the closer role, but never returned due to the emergence of Clay Holmes. He was thrown into low-leverage situations in July, and while it was longer and significantly shakier, he was able to rebound and settle into a setup role in August before he got an infected tattoo and deserted the team ahead of October.

But ex-Yankees outfielder Cameron Maybin says Williams’ problems are the least of the Yankees’ concerns. “Devin Williams just hasn’t been himself since he’s been in those pinstripes,” Maybin said on FoulTerritoryTV.

Williams has struggled immensely in recent weeks and overall this season, posting a 5.73 ERA in his first year with the Yankees.
