A Texas man died while hiking in the Grand Canyon, the National Park Service said Wednesday, as the agency warned of temperatures reaching over 110 degrees. Park rangers were alerted to an unresponsive hiker on the popular South Kaibab Trail at 11:50 a.

Firefighters and hikers fled for their lives as a huge wildfire engulfed dozens of buildings in the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Lodge, the only lodging where people can sleep inside the natural wonder at the North Rim, was consumed by the flames, park rangers confirmed on Sunday.

Visitors and staff at two national parks in the U.S. West have been evacuated because of wildfires.

The park said along with the fire risk, they could potentially be exposed to chlorine gas after the treatment plant burned.
