The Yankees had a bead on Seattle Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz. That’s according to M’s catcher Cal Raleigh, who believes Muñoz was tipping pitches during the ninth inning of the Yankees’ come-from-behind 6-5 win on Thursday night.
For seven frames, starter Bryan Woo was unhittable. He held the New York Yankees in check for most of the night, dominating on his way to an eighth-inning exit. When second baseman Jazz Chisholm broke up the no-hitter, Woo responded with class, but karma didn't reward him immediately.
NEW YORK — Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh thinks All-Star closer Andrés Muñoz was tipping pitches when he squandered a two-run lead in the ninth inning Thursday night against the New York Yankees. Muñoz was handed his sixth blown save in 27 opportunities this season after starter Bryan Woo held the Yankees hitless into the eighth.
Muñoz had tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings entering Thursday's appearance. The Yankees went on to win on a walk-off sacrifice fly by reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge in the bottom of the 10th inning, completing a rare comeback that hadn't been seen in MLB in nearly 50 years.
